1. A fox went out one wintry night,
And he begg'd of the moon to give him light,
For he had many miles to trot that night
Before he reach'd his den, O! den, O! den O!
For he had many miles to trot that night
Before he reach'd his den, O!
2. And first he came to a farmer's yard,
Where the ducks and the geese declar'd it hard,
Their rest should be broken and their nests be marr'd
By the visits of Mister Fox, O!
3. He seized the black duck by the neck,
And swung her all across his back,
The black duck cried out, 'Quack! quack! quack!'
And the Fox ran off to his den, O!
4. Old Mother Slipper-Slopper jumped out of bed,
And out of the window she popped her head:
'John, John, John, the black duck is gone!
And the Fox is off to his den, O!'
5. So home he went to his hungry wife,
And they did very well without fork or knife;
They never ate a better duck in all their life,
And the little ones picked the bones, O!
